In the Hall of the Repurposed Melodies

Posted: March 14, 2012 in Music Therapy

A quick one today as I try to get back into the swing of this blogging thing.  As music therapists, we’re not above stealing stuff.  Activities, songs, even melodies – it’s all fair game.  I’ve been searching for a good taking turns song, and accidentally stumbled across one during a session using the melody for In the Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt (Grieg):

Jesse’s turn to play the drum
Play the drum, play the drum
Jesse’s turn to play the drum
It’s Jesse’s turn to play.

You just substitute names, and everyone waits their turn (ideally).  The tune just kind of came out one day, and I’ve been using it a lot.  It’s a fairly familiar melody as it is, and the fact that it sounds kind of like the theme to Inspector Gadget probably helps some.

Anyway, that’s it.  Thanks for reading!
